Filipino fashion designers Josie Natori, who is also the CEO of the Natori Company which has an apparel production unit in Pasig, said she has decided to increase sourcing from her home country.
She said consumers are willing to pay more for apparels if they have better quality and designs. She added that consumers appreciate the craftsmanship and eye for detailing in the products made in Philippines.
Natori stressed that Philippines should make the most of its design ability as the country does not enjoy cost advantage in comparison to other countries.
Presently, Natori sources half of its requirements of apparels from China and the rest from the Philippines. Now, the firm plans to cash in on the consumer preferences by changing the sourcing pattern.
Although the US remains the biggest importer of Filipino apparels, there is great opportunity in the Asian markets, Natori said at a press conference arranged to announce the launch of the 55th edition of Manila FAME 2012 – the design and lifestyle event – that is to be held from March 14 to 17.
