The year 2012 will be etched in the world’s history of fashion because of some major changes that took place in the most prominent international fashion houses, which majorly contribute to changing global fashion trends every year.

Three apex Parisian fashion labels – Dior, Yves Saint Laurent and Balenciaga – had begun the year 2012 with new creative heads who not only gave a new recognition to these already established brands but also modified and modernised the label’s signature styles and patterns.

The 44-year-old Belgian designer Raf Simons, who took over as the head of design at Dior in mid-2012, showcased flower-women blossoming in a décor extravagantly set with a million blooms in his first haute couture collection for the house, which won the hearts of fashionistas all over.

The designer’s spring-summer 2013 collection for the label focused mainly on creating varieties in the brand’s signature A line cuts by placing the central bar very high on the body in a series of satin and organza mixed bustier dresses.

The newly appointed creative director of the renowned French label Yves Saint Laurent, 44-year-old Hedi Slimane made his mark in the history of the brand by presenting his debut YSL runway show at the Paris Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2013.

The designer of mixed origins, born to an Italian mother and a Tunisian father, featured a collection inspired by the movies of the 1970s along with a slight hint of rich-hippie culture. His skinny-tailored apparel line included Tuxedo jackets, slim leather jeans, billowy sleeved maxi-dresses, sequined evening wear, gold chain fringed skirts and suede outfits with front lacing.

Teamed with witchy woman capes trimmed in feathers, lace and sequins, Hedi’s creations stood out because of their uniqueness and hence immediately found a place in the 26-year-old young singing sensation Lady Gaga’s wardrobe, which she proudly wore at the Yoko Ono Grant for Peace event in Iceland.
