The semi-annual Toronto Fashion Week got off to a glittering start with a new title sponsor, which gave a new name to the Fashion Week’s banner – World MasterCard Fashion Week.

The launch of Fashion Week saw on the catwalk creations made from carpets, floor-length gowns and an assorted collection of Canadian style outfits.

Canadian home décor brand Korhani Home was the first to present its creations on the runway. Its designs were entirely fashioned out of rugs, showing various influences of the Far East, punk rock chic and Victorian era-luxe.

The fanciful creations featured flared dresses, collared minis, and flowing and hooded capes. There were even nylon, silk and tapestry rugs depicting everything from dots to florals.

In tune with unusual nature of the display, models catwalked wearing colourful streaked coifs carrying piglets on the runway.

The creations presented by luxury retailer Holt Renfrew highlighted the diversity of the Canadian fashion design community, which included Line Knitwear and Denis Merotto.

Smythe, a Toronto-based label, showcased its range of bespoke outerwear with sleek overcoats and slim-fit blazers that had basic black and rich red hues.

Sleek pencil skirts, dual-tone dresses and peplum jackets were among the creations displayed by fashion designer Lida Baday.
